Product Details

Attractive advertising breadboard with footed base bearing the name of "Allinson". A carved bread knife sporting the word bread is also included along with an authentic sugar cone.

"Thomas Allinson" was a British doctor who started the first grain mill that produced whole grain meal using stone-grinders in 1892. His sentiments were, “Health without medicine”. This board dates to the later part of the 19th century having carved elongated notches along with two opposing flowers that terminate near the first and last letter. Knife marks and age related cracks appear on both sides but are more prevalent near the top. There are no chips to report and this board is in good condition.

Knife is marked," J. H. Potter" who operated his business “Rockingham Works” in Sheffield, England from 1884 to 1940 and produced fine quality silver plate and plated items that included cutlery and tableware. Advertisement shown in last picture.   Blade exhibits dark areas where the plate has worn away pertaining to both sides. Handle shows vestiges of blue paint and the carved letters are intact.

Nice set and displays well!  Enjoy!

Board measures 10 ¾” across and stands ¾” tall. Knife measures 12" long.
